Title: Ocean of Secrets

Author: Sophie-chan

Genre: Fantasy, Adventure, Young Adult

Graphic Novel

Rating: 4/5 stars

This book is about an orphan that suffers an accident and is saved by a duo of runaways on a magical ship. Though it is a fantasy story, it is set on Earth and the character learns about a secret world.

I enjoyed this book and read it as a more traditional manga in paperback form. I typically read graphic novels on my phone so it took me a bit to get used to the left-to-right reading style but the author has a nice little graphic to help, so it wasn't too bad.

Though the book was black and white, the art was really good. The story had a strong plot and kept me reading, and has me interested enough that I would read the second book in the series. The main reason I didn't give the book 5 out of 5 stars is because I felt it moved too fast. I would have enjoyed some more character development. It seems as if the main character, Lia, has grown close to Moria and Al, however, I didn't feel I got to see enough of the development and personalities.

Also, it felt short and as if it just got started when the story ended. Perhaps this is typical of manga, and it was a thin book. However, I would have enjoyed a little more character development and depth (especially with the main character, her personality feels a little ambiguous still).

Overall, I would recommend for anyone who enjoys fantasy or adventure.

Clean Read?

So far this has been a pretty clean read. There is some violence depicted but it is minimal, and there is magic.

Enjoy your next adventure!
